Do you know your farmer?

Posted

A speaker made a great point: you know your doctor, you know your plumber, but do you know your FARMER? If you attended last night's Slow Food Down East event at Chef & the Farmer, you DO know your farmer. In fact, you ate dinner with him or her. And what a fantastic success... the event was SOLD OUT. Chef (and owner) Vivian Howard and partner Ben Knight did a superb job of pulling a mixed crowd of guests together for a three course experience, served family style for a friendly, get-to-know your neighbor touch. Each course was paired with a Mother Earth Brewing beer. And let me tell you, the beer was FLOWING. Staff ensured your plate and glass were always full. From grilled NC shrimp, to Carolina rice, NC blue crab and local chicken and vegetables- right down to the beer- everything we enjoyed was produced locally. - And that's what the Slow Food experience is all about: reconnecting people with the farmers, traditions, plants and animals that produce our food. I'm not a food critic, so I won't attempt to explain the food experience I enjoyed last night, but I'll tell you this; everyone in that room last night left more than satisfied. The Mother Earth Brewing team was proud to be featured at this event, and we look forward to many more. Cheers.
